I quote (http://blog.thestar.com.my/permalink.asp?id=24719), says that the education department has decided to stop the implementation of english language in delivering science & math in malaysia. This is a dreadful news. Personally, me, as a teacher to be, I would strongly disagree with the decicion. This is just not me saying, but most of the people, especially the parents who knew about it. I am just surprised to know that the government didn't take MUCH consideration regarding the situation. PPSMI has just been launched in 2003, and the gap of research duration was only what, 6 years? And now they're saying its a failure. How can they come up with such hypothesis? It should be longer, to see the outcomes of the implementation. I am very disappointed to know how some people thinks shortsightedly. I'm not against this just because I know english, no. But I, somehow have to think like a student, and some of the students that I've met, came up to me and said the usage of english in learning Science is very helpful, since all the information they obtained are all, English written. Of course, it takes time for the people to adapt the situation. Patient is what it takes. I thought I might be having problem in teaching the kids in using english, but in-fact, the students are really interested in learning the language itself. I guess it all depends on the educator, on what are the methods being used to attract students' attention. Now, back to the story, I think PPSMI should be proceeded they way they are. Learning in english does not imply that you are not malay. Bahasa Malaysia has always been the everyday language. Think hard, people. It's for the sake of our children. again, I quote Tun Mahathir's sayings, "Bahasa sesuatu bangsa akan dipelajari oleh orang asing jika bangsa itu amat maju dan terkenal dengan ilmu yang dimiliki dan diterokai olehnya.".
Bahasa jiwa bangsa, walaupun kita gunakan bahasa asing dalam mempelajari ilmu, tidak semestinya kita membelakangkan bahasa ibunda. Itu bahasa ilmu, bahasa ilmu!
Fail to plan, plan to fail.
